The York Gospels

Produced in England, Canterbury, Christ Church, late 10th–early 11th century
York Minster, Chapter Library, MS Add. 1

The York Gospels, in addition to the gospel text, includes oaths to be sworn by deans, canons, vicars, and dignitaries of York Minster, upon their installation. The manuscript is a splendid example of Anglo-Saxon illumination.
