Fr. Ong met Toklas, the Browns, and Teilhard de Chardin while in based in Paris to conduct research for his dissertation (17 November 1950 - 21 July 1953). The entire dissertation research trip, from the day he left Boston to the day he returned, began 11 March 1950 and ended 3 December 1953.
