This guide identifies secondary resources on St. Louis history available at Pius XII Memorial Library or on the World Wide Web.  Most of the print materials are located in the Reference Department on Level 1 of Pius Library.  The guide is not comprehensive; rather, it should be used as a starting point for research.  This guide does not include genealogical resources.

Online archive of several Missouri newspapers. Primarily covers the mid to late 19th century but there is some coverage of the 20th century.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch. 1988- .  NewsBank.  In-library and remote access.
Updated daily. Access to archival articles back to 1989. The premier research collection for St. Louis history.

Pius XII Memorial Library - St. Louis Room
The St. Louis Room in Pius XII Memorial Library includes many materials of local interest, including archival materials related to Saint Louis University, some papers of local notables, and a collection of books on St. Louis history.

St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis
Founded in 1846, the Mercantile library offers outstanding historical collections.  The collections are particularly strong in waterway and railroad transportation history.  The Mercantile Library also houses the archives of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.  More information can be found in their brochure at http://www.umsl.edu/mercantile/brochure/brochure.html.

St. Louis Public Library
St. Louis Public Library has extensive holdings related to St. Louis history.  They also offer assistance with genealogical research.

Western Historical Manuscript Collection (Thomas Jefferson Library, University of Missouri-St. Louis)
The collection includes a variety of manuscripts that reflect St. Louis history.
