This guide identifies resources for aviation safety found in Pius XII Memorial Library and on the Web. This guide is not comprehensive; rather it should be supplemented with several other guides for Pius Library such as Aviation and Aviation Safety. Call numbers pertain to locations within Pius XII Memorial Library.

LIBRARY CATALOGS

The Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog is available on computers throughout the library, or with unrestricted access via the Internet. Access the catalog through Saint Louis University Libraries home page. Searching can be expanded to include the MOBIUS holdings, the consortium which includes the Washington University Libraries and most of the other academic libraries in Missouri.

Books, periodicals and other materials in Pius XII Memorial Library are arranged by Library of Congress classification (call) numbers. The broad classification for Aerospace Engineering and Aerospace Technology is:

FINDING JOURNAL AND MAGAZINE ARTICLES (DATABASES)

To locate journal articles, reports, and other types of material you will need to use indexes and databases. Selecting the appropriate index or database is an important step in locating the information you need. There are a number of additional databases that you may want to use that cover a variety of aspects of aviation. A number of these are listed and described below. NOTE: On the Saint Louis University Libraries homepage you can find guides for using many of these databases.

ABI/INFORM Global Edition. 1971- . ProQuest. In-library and remote access.
Updated daily. Indexes and abstracts over 1,500 journals and trade publications in all areas of business and management, many with an international focus. Full text is available for over 800 of the periodicals. Examples of areas covered are accounting and taxation, banking and finance, economics, government, health care, human resources, labor relations, marketing, etc. Click on 'Search Guide' in upper lefthand corner for assistance with this database.

Academic Search Premier. 1975- .  EBSCOhost.  In-library and remote access.
Updated daily.  This multidisciplinary database provides indexing and abstracting for 8,040 journals (6,679 are peer-reviewed) with over 4,060 in full text. Of the peer-reviwed journals 3,529 are full text. Covers subjects found in college and university curriculums.

Aerospace & High Technology Database. 1962- .
Updated monthly. Provides worldwide bibliographic coverage of published and unpublished scientific and technical literature related to the aerospace industry. Articles from over 1,600 periodicals from world wide sources are scanned in addition to conferences, books, published and unpublished report literature, theses, and patents. This is the electronic equivalent of International Aerospace Abstracts (IAA), published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It also contains reports issued by NASA, other U.S. government agencies, international institutions, universities, and private firms.

Air University Library Index To Military Periodicals (AULIMP). 1990- .
Updated quarterly. Created by the Air University Library and provided by the Defense Technical Information Center, AULIMP provides citations and abstracts to articles, news items, and editorials from military and aeronautical periodicals covering all branches of the military. A few links are provided to full-text items.

Updated weekly. Includes full text of every article from almost 100 publications back to 1997 in addition to abstracts for articles back to March 1993 and indexing for over 480 publications back to October 1983. Subject coverage includes aviation, engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer technology. Includes articles, interviews, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and new product reviews/announcements.

ArticleFirst. 1990- .
Updated daily. Indexes articles from approximately 12,500 journals and magazines covering the subjects of science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture. Most articles are available by mail or fax for a fee using a credit card. However, Pius Library may own the journal article or you may request it through Interlibrary Loan

Aviation Week Newsletters. 1997 - .
Search or browse the following aviation and aerospace newsletters, published by McGraw-Hill: Aviation Daily; Aerospace Daily ; The Weekly of Business Aviation; Airports; and Overhaul & Maintenance. Go to the Advanced Search to access an archive of these 5 newsletters back to January 1, 1997. Search by word or phrase and limit by date and/or by publication. Navigate to another of the 5 newsletters by clicking on its title in the gray bar.

Ei Compendex* Plus. 1980- . Ovid. In-library and remote access.
Updated monthly. The premier interdisciplinary engineering database in the world, this database provides abstracts and full bibliographic citations from worldwide engineering and technical literature that encompasses all engineering disciplines, as well as related fields in science, and management. The entries are drawn from over 2,600 published journals, conference proceedings and individual conference papers, technical reports, monographs, and other materials. The print counterpart is Engineering Index.

LEXISNEXIS Academic. Dates vary by publication. LexisNexis. In-library and remote access.
Updated continuously. Excellent source for information on the aerospace/aviation industry that is mostly full text. To search, first select from LEXISNEXIS Academic from the PIUS Library's homepage under Choose a Database K-W . Then select Business from the tab, then Industry & Market, and then Aerospace, Defense and Aviation News . Type your terms into the search boxes provided and select a date range. Then click on the search button. NOTE: The term(s) entered in the first keyword box MUST appear in the title or the first two or three paragraphs.
