This resource guide identifies materials located in the collections of Pius XII Memorial Library and on the Web that are useful for students in education and teachers studying and/or actively teaching.  The guide is specifically geared to students who are visiting and observing classrooms in elementary and secondary schools in the St. Louis metro area.  See Lesson Plans & Teacher Reources Guide for additional Web sites.

Access to the following resources in available to anyone in Pius Library.  "In-library access" means that access is available in the Reference Department.  Any resources identified as being available via "remote access" are available from Pius Library's Web site [http://www.slu.edu/libraries/pius/].
Note: Remote access is available to current SLU students, faculty, and staff.  Your SLU e-mail username and password are required for use.

Academic Search Premier . 1975-  .  EBSCOhost.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated daily.  This multidisciplinary database that includes education provides indexing and abstracting for 8,040 scholarly journals from various fields and has full text for over 4,060 beginning as far back as 1975. 6,679 journals are peer reviewed.

Education Full Text.  1983- .  WilsonWeb.  In-library and remote access.
     Electronic counterpart of Education Index below, except that over 200 journals are full text beginning 1994 and later.  Full-text start date varies with journal.

ERIC.  1966- .  CSA.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated monthly.  Indexes journals found in CIJE and documents found in RIE.

LexisNexis Academic.  Start date varies by publication.  LexisNexis.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated continuously.  A subset of LEXIS-NEXIS.  Provides online access to full-text of current and historical court cases, news sources, business and financial information, and international news and company information.

LLBA (Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts).  1973- .  CSA.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated monthly.  This bibliographic database provides abstracts of articles from hundreds of periodicals published worldwide, as well as books, technical reports, and dissertations.  Subjects covered include child language acquisition, speech and hearing, artificial intelligence, dialectology, bilingualism, and computational and mathematical linguistics.

Saint Louis Post-Dispatch.  1989- .  NewsBank.  In-library and remote access.
     Updated daily.  Access to archival articles back to 1989.  Go to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Web site for late-breaking news and articles available only on their Web site.  Another point of access for this newspaper is Academic Universe.

SearchERIC.org.  1966- .  Free Web Resource.

FINDING BOOKS USING LIBRARY CATALOG


Search the Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog, the SLU electronic library catalog, and MOBIUS, the Missouri Union Catalog, by author, title, keywords, author-title, subject, etc.  Use in the library or by remote access.  The Saint Louis University Libraries Catalog is available from the SLU Libraries Home Page.  Tip:  Always search Saint Louis University first.  If needed item(s) is/are not found, extend the search to MOBIUS.
