PRINT INDEXES AND ELECTRONIC DATABASES

To locate magazine, journal, or newspaper articles on a particular topic, start by searching one of our library's electronic databases or print indexes. Some indexes cover a very specific subject area in great detail, some cover an entire field of study, and some cover many subjects in less detail.

Typically databases provide citations of articles from the last 20 years although some such as Periodicals Index Online (PIO) index articles from as far back as 1665. ABI/INFORM, a business database, provides indexing back to the 1970s. Some electronic databases include the full text of many articles.  Print indexes cover earlier time periods and only provide source information and/or an abstract (summary) of the article.

When you use print indexes or electronic databases, remember that Pius does not own all the magazines, journals, and newspapers listed.
