INDEXES AND ELECTRONIC DATABASES |
|
To locate magazine, journal, or newspaper articles on a particular topic,
start by searching one of our library's electronic databases or print indexes. Some indexes cover a very specific subject area
in great detail, some cover an entire field of study, and some cover
many subjects in less detail.
|
Typically
databases provide citations of articles from the last
20 years although some such as Periodicals Index Online (PIO) index articles from as far back as 1665. ABI/INFORM,
a business database, provides indexing back to the 1970s. Some
electronic databases include the full text of many articles. Print
indexes cover earlier time periods and only provide source information
and/or an abstract (summary) of the article.
|
When
you use print indexes or electronic databases, remember that Pius does not own
all the magazines, journals, and newspapers listed.
