The University Libraries Core Strategic Planning Team dedicated many hours over the summer and fall of 2006 to develop this Plan for Excellence in Information Resources and Library Services. A thorough Needs Assessment of buildings and facilities, finances and budget, operations, services, organization and staffing, collections, and technology was completed with primary focus on the Pius XII Memorial Library and the Medical Center Library.
Data from SLU's 2003 and 2006 LibQUAL+TMsurvey of students and faculty revealed that the need for more resources, specifically electronic journals and printed books, as well as the need to upgrade Pius Library's physical facility, including information technologies, have not been satisfactorily addressed.
Primary Concerns
Through Needs Assessment analysis, we learned
Users are highly satisfied with services provided by library faculty and staff.
The library faculty liaison program was highlighted as being outstanding.
Graduate students and faculty want greatly improved access to print and electronic resources to support their research, teaching, and scholarship.
The Pius XII Memorial Library building needs renovation and expansion.
Rare and special collections need to be maintained in a climate-controlled environment suitable for preservation and access to this important scholarship.
